Sometimes you need more time to start works, or you want to keep perfecting your dream. We get that. Apply to extend the time on your Planning Permit here.
Types of extensions of time
You can only apply for an extension of time to start works:
- Up to 6 months after the permit expires.
You can only apply for an extension of time to finish all or staged works:
- Up to 12 months after the permit expires and the works/stage started lawfully before the permit expired.
Who can apply
The owner or the occupier of the land to which the permit applies.
Conditions to issuing an extension
- We may extend the time within which the use or development or any stage of it is to be started or the development or any stage of it is to be completed or within which a plan under the Subdivision Act 1988 is to be certified
- if the time is extended after the permit has expired the extension operates from the day the permit expired.

Application fee
We will send you an invoice for payment based on the fee structure which includes GST:
- VicSmart/Subdivision Applications: $500
- cost of development is up to $250,000: $1,000
- cost of development is between $250,001 and $1,000,000: $1,500
- cost of development is over $1,000,000: $3,000.

- the type of extension you need, either to start or finish works
- how much more time you need
- your reason/s for requesting an extension of time to your permit.
