Brimbank Council lodges application for merits review of Third Runway decision
Brimbank City Council has lodged an application for a merits review of the Federal Government’s recent decision to give conditional approval to Melbourne Airport’s Third Runway Major Development Plan (MDP).
Council has taken this action due its concerns about the conditional approval.
As always, Brimbank Council’s priority is to ensure the Third Runway does not unreasonably compromise the health, wellbeing and amenity of the community affected by Melbourne Airport.
Municipal Monitors term extended by the Minister for Local Government
The Minister for Local Government, the Hon Melissa Horne MP, has announced a six-month extension to the term of the two Municipal Monitors appointed to Brimbank City Council under section 179 of the Local Government Act 2020.
Ms Janet Dore and Ms Penelope Holloway were appointed in February 2024 as monitors to guide good governance and to provide reports back to the Minister on these matters.
Their appointment has been extended for a further six months, from 1 January 2025 to 30 June 2025.
Councillor Thuy Dang elected Mayor of Brimbank
Cr Thuy Dang will lead the municipality for the next 12 months after being elected by her fellow Councillors at a Council Meeting on 20 November 2024 that was livestreamed to the public.
New Brimbank Council sworn-in
The newly elected Brimbank Council has been sworn in for a four-year term, in a ceremony on Wednesday 13 November 2024.
The 11-member Council took their oaths and affirmations of office in front of Council’s Chief Executive Officer Fiona Blair and signed a declaration to abide by the Model Councillor Code of Conduct.
