About Playgroups
Playgroups are for:
- babies
- toddlers
- preschool children
- their parents, grandparents or carers.
Playgroups are informal and low cost. They meet regularly, usually for 2 hours, once per week. They are a great way for you to meet other families in your community who have children aged between birth and 5 years.

About Smalltalk playgroups
- We operate 16 Smalltalk supported playgroup sessions a week during school terms for eligible families with children from birth to 5 years.
These programs are offered in English, Vietnamese or Burmese
- Learn some great tips to enhance your child's early learning.
- Find out about early childhood programs available in your area.
- Meet and connect with other parents.
- Discover play experiences for children.
Smalltalk supported playgroups are funded by the Department of Families, Fairness and Housing and delivered by Council. The program provides parents with strategies to enhance their child's home learning environment at no charge to families.
Some parents are also eligible for In-Home Support which involves a qualified facilitator visiting a family in their own home. Parents participating in in-home support may also attend a Smalltalk supported playgroup.
During these home-based sessions, parents see practical examples of the Smalltalk strategies and can practice ideas with a qualified facilitator.

Who can apply?
Smalltalk supported playgroups are available to:
- families with a Health Care Card or equivalent, including bridging visas
- Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander children and children in kinship care arrangements.
There is no charge for these sessions.
