Brimbank Council has endorsed a comprehensive action plan to tackle the issue of illegal rubbish dumping and keep Brimbank clean and beautiful.

Illegal rubbish dumping in Brimbank and other municipalities throughout Victoria has significantly increased over the past 12 months, costing rate payers and the environment.

Council announces crackdown on dumped rubbish

With illegal dumping of rubbish becoming a serious and growing problem in Brimbank, putting a stop to rubbish dumping is an urgent priority for Council.

Council applauds agreement to get Melbourne Airport Rail back on track

Brimbank Council has welcomed the announcement of an agreement between the Federal and 
State governments and Australia Pacific Airports, with a Memorandum of Understanding signed 
today.

This long-awaited agreement, jointly announced by the State and Federal Governments, marks 
‘moving forward’ with the Melbourne Airport Railway project.

Council has long advocated for the delivery of Melbourne Airport Rail and the development of the 

New public plaza for Durham Road, Sunshine

Council proposes to create a new public plaza in Sunshine, next door to the new Vietnamese Museum Australia being built at 119 Durham Road, Sunshine by mid-2026.

The plaza will be a welcoming public space for everyone to enjoy, honouring the Traditional Owners and celebrating all refugee and multicultural communities in Brimbank.

The pedestrian-only, well-lit space will have plenty of seating, garden beds and public art by a local Indigenous artist. The large gum trees already on site will be retained, and more trees will be planted.

Brimbank welcomes Melbourne Airport Rail and Sunshine Station funding

Brimbank Council applauds today’s announcement of an additional $2 billion in Federal Government funding for the Melbourne Airport Rail project and the transformation of Sunshine Station into a transport superhub.

This funding will supplement the previously announced $5 billion of Federal funding for the project, and the $5b already committed by the State Government.

Brimbank Councillors Call for ‘Rail before Runway’

18 February 2025 - Rail before Runway – a community movement launched today by Brimbank City Council – calls on the State and Federal Governments to urgently deliver the Melbourne Airport Rail before Melbourne’s third runway is built.

Get ready for Kindergarten

March is Kindergarten Readiness Month, and Council is hosting a series of kindergarten open days and face-to-face information sessions to help families register their children for sessional kindergarten.

Come along and explore your local kindergarten, meet teachers, ask questions and gather information to help choose which kindergarten to enrol your child. Bookings are not required.

These information sessions and open days will help families learn everything about the kindergarten registration process for three and four-year-old funded sessional kindergarten in Brimbank.
