Expressions of Interest for 2026 membership

Expressions of Interest are open for community members to join the Brimbank Active Seniors group (BAS).

Vacancies

We're looking for diverse representation of experience, gender and cultural identity. We encourage expressions of interest from First Nations People.

Vacancies to fill:

  • 2 vacancies for older community members (65 years or older or First Nations Peoples 50 years and over)

  • 2 vacancies for an industry or sector representative (positive ageing, seniors or older Australians).

What is the Brimbank Active Seniors group?

It's a consultative group that provides meaningful input and advice on things like access, equity and inclusion for older people who live, work, study or socialise in the City of Brimbank.

The BAS will contribute to Council strategies and plans related to positive ageing. We'll work together to create a vibrant seniors community through the active involvement of older people in community life.

BAS group's objectives

  • Provide advice and recommendations on the planning, development, and review of Council policies, programs and initiatives. We want to make sure they are inclusive and accessible for older persons

  • Provide oversight and track how we support older people to shape and create an accessible and inclusive community

  • Consult older community members and ensure community input and discussion

  • Provide advice on issues relevant to older community members at the local level

  • Identify barriers that may impact older community members, their families and carers.

Period of membership

Membership will be for a period of 4 years, and no more than 2 consecutive terms (other than Council staff).

BAS members whose membership has expired after 4 years can reapply through the public advertising process for 1 more term of membership.

A panel will recruit to the BAS. This panel will comprise Council staff and the Manager of Community Care or a delegated Officer.

Casual vacancies may arise during the 4 year term of the BAS. These will be filled by application or at the recommendation and approval of the Manager Community Care or another delegate.

Expressions of interest are open until Friday 27 February 2026.
