You must have reported the incident with us before you can apply for compensation. Enquiry numbers are validated before we start our assessment.

If you are unsure on how to lodge a service request, you can call us on 03 9249 4000 from Monday to Friday between 8:45am to 5pm. We can offer advice or lodge it for you over the phone.

What you need to apply

To succeed in your request, you need to provide evidence that the incident occurred due to Council’s negligence. To state that Council is liable because ‘it is their asset’ or ‘the asset is on their land’ is not sufficient for your request to be accepted.

In any public liability claim, providing proof of negligence rests with the person seeking compensation. Neither Council nor Echelon Claims Services can assist you in this.
